RUN MDI with Team JAF

Do something even greater than simply finishing MDI: Run with Team JAF

All fundraising by Team JAF runners directly supports the Foundation’s mission of providing help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families.

Each year Team JAF is comprised of first-time runners, experienced runners, individuals touched by cancer, and friends who want to fundraise for and represent JAF while participating in one of most scenic road races in the Northeast. Team JAF runners are also encouraged to spread our (Up)Beat philosophy as they fund raise and compete, showing how a positive attitude can conquer any hurdle.

All Team JAF runners will receive a Team JAF singlet, running hat, and fundraising tool kit. Runners will also have access to a Team JAF staff member and an online Team JAF MDI running community to support them along the way.

Team JAF at MDI has a $600 fundraising minimum, which will help the Joe Andruzzi Foundation provide critical resources to families facing financial difficulties due to cancer treatment.

About the Joe Andruzzi Foundation

In addition to the physical impact, there is also a “hidden cost of cancer” that many people do not realize.  Following a cancer diagnosis, many patients and their families face a dramatic decrease in household income because one adult must stop working or significantly reduce their hours to care for themselves or a loved one.

This loss of income, combined with a significant increase in out-of-pocket expenses related to treatment, creates a stressful situation for the family facing the disease.  This economic distress is known as financial toxicity and can have a negative impact on a cancer patient’s health outcome.

The Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) recognizes the hidden cost of cancer and strives to alleviate this financial stress.Through the distribution of grants and gift cards, JAF covers basic non-medical needs that patients and caregivers impacted by cancer often find themselves unable to afford - including housing, food, transportation and utilities.

“ Cancer has changed me and made me a much more caring and compassionate person to others. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation impacted my life because I had lost my job and my health care… They paid my rent for two months, which took me through the months until I received long-term disability. I am so grateful to your foundation for doing that and I feel there’s an upside to having had cancer, had I not had cancer, I never would’ve met so many wonderful people who are now part of my life. My plan is to give back so that others can be able to get through the financial burden, as did I, with cancer .” Susan P.
