Kids Run Overview
Our Kids Run the MDI Marathon program encourages a positive relationship with physical activity and cuts down on screen time by utilizing a real running log and rewarding significant milestones with certificates of achievement. This program, as our team has designed it, is so popular that other races have even started adopting it for their own!
Hey KIDS! Are your ready to RUN a marathon?
Here's how it works: After you are officially signed up to participate you will start running and tracking your miles on the official Rids Run Log.
A marathon is 26.2 miles. You will run and log the first 25 miles on your own, with your family, or even with a group of friends.
After everyone has logged their 25 miles, we will all join together in Northeast Harbor on SATURDAY to run the last mile together and cross the kids run finish line in front of cheering spectators in downtown Northeast Harbor! Kids Run race medals will be awarded at the finish.

Running log & certificates ➤kids run
Your running log and certificate information will be included in the confirmation email that is sent at the time of registration. (Be sure and check you spam folder and print your training log and your achievement certificates as you earn them!)
pre-race check-in & Bib numbers ➤kids run
All children need to be checked in prior to the Kids Run start time. You may check your child in at the Pre-Race Health & Fitness Expo (Friday: 3PM-8PM, Saturday 10AM-5PM) or on Kids Run Day! (New his year, on Saturday morning!) The start and finish is located on Main Street in downtown Northeast Harbor (see below for details). Check-in is at 10AM before the Kids Run starts promptly at 11AM.

The Kids Run will start and finish near the Great Harbor Maritime Museum located in the heart of town.
Race Day Parking ➤kids run
Do not park at the start/finish area. Please park at the marina and walk up the hill to town. The start and finish is at 124 Main Street near the Great Harbor Maritime Museum.

COURSE TIME LIMIT ➤kids run
There is no time limit for the Kids Run. However, if you find that you're the caboose, we suggest moving safely to the side to allow cars to pass.
Medallions ➤kids run
Kids Run finishers will receive a kid-sized signature crusher claw medallion after they complete the race.
(Kids need to be wearing their official bib number on the front of their shirts during the race to receive their award. Medals to the first 250 who sign up and finish. Sorry we can't mail medals if you can't attend.)
Finishing & Post-Race ➤kids run
We invite all Kids Run finishers and their families to explore downtown Northeast Harbor and enjoy the many shops and fun places in this quaint picturesque town. This is the route the MDI Marathon will take the next day and downtown Northeast Harbor a great spot to cheer on the runners as they pass thru town at the 12.3 mile mark!
Final Mile Rules of the road ➤kids run
The Northeast Harbor Police Department will be providing an escort for the Kids Run.
The Kids Run course will remain open to local and race-related traffic. (Traffic is very light.) However, if you find that you are unable to keep up with the group, please move safely to the side.

- Start SOUTH on Main Street, Northeast Harbor
- Stay straight on Rock End Road
- Turn LEFT on Barnacle Way/ Maple Lane
- Turn RIGHT on South Shore Road
- Turn RIGHT on Cove End Road
- Turn RIGHT on Neighborhood Road
- Turn LEFT on Main Street and run back to the finish!

A note to Parents
One of the many goals of the Mount Desert Island Marathon is to motivate and inspire everyone in our community, including children. Our Kids Run will help motivate and challenge the next generation to get-up, get-out, and RUN! Running is fun, builds self-esteem and boasts a number of health benefits for children, teens, and people of all ages.
Our program is geared primarily for children in Kindergarten thru 8th Grade, but all children that wish to participate are welcome. Each participant will run and log 25 miles over the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Kids anywhere can participate!
After your child is signed up you will receive a confirmation email with additional information including a link to a printable running log, and links for incremental mileage certificates.
Finally, on Kids Run morning, Saturday, October 14th all children who have completed their first 25 miles will join together in Northeast Harbor and run the Final Mile together. They will get to experience the thrill of crossing the official Kids Run Finish Line where they will be greeted by cheering spectators and awarded medals!
We encourage all kids, both those that live here, and those who will be coming from away to cheer on family members who are participating in race weekend events, to sign up today!

The Mount Desert Island Marathon is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Entry fees, including optional meal add-ons, coaching programs, club memberships, etc. are non-refundable. No exceptions. (See transfer & deferral information on FAQ Page.) This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether your plans change, you are injured, or have an unexpected family emergency / business emergency / medical emergency / etc. This means once you have paid your entry fee you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, or if the course has to be changed, or if the event is cancelled due to weather, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstances. The race committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entries.
