Overview
The Mount Desert Island Marathon is honored to be part of the fourth edition of the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings qualifying series!
The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) is a series of six of the largest and most renowned marathons in the world - Tokyo Marathon, B.A.A. Boston Marathon, Virgin Money London Marathon, BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and TCS New York City Marathon.
AbbottWMM also applauds the achievements and passion of everyday champions from around the world! The AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings — a global age group marathon ranking system selects the top age-division runners (age 40+) for the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship.
AbbottWMM sets the pace in the marathon industry, providing largest platform for the best athletes in the sport and offering the only truly global program for the world’s amateur athletes. This main goal of the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings is to give as many age group runners the chance to earn World Ranking points from quality races around the world.

Mount Desert Island Marathon
The Mount Desert Island Marathon is pleased to announce that our event will be included as part of the Third Edition of the qualifying series, which begins on January 1, 2022 and concludes at the end of the calendar year, culminating at the World Championships in 2023 at the Chicago Marathon.

How It Works
The AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings is comprised of a one-year qualifying period during which athletes (age 40+) in nine separate age groups can compete in marathons across the world (including MDI) to earn ranking points.
At the end of each qualifying period, the top ranked runners in each age group will be invited to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.
The rankings cover age groups from 40 to 80+ for men and women as follows

65-69
70-74
75-79
80+

Please note: The Mount Desert Island Marathon will send age group results to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings within 14-days of our race. After results are submitted, competitors will then need to click HERE to claim their results.

CANCELLATION POLICY
The Mount Desert Island Marathon is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Entry fees, including optional add-ons, and/or charity donations, are non-refundable. No exceptions. (A limited number of deferrals may be available, see FAQ page for more information.) This no-refund policy is clearly posted and must be agreed to by all entrants at the time of registration. This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether the entrant’s plans change, the entrant becomes injured, or if the entrant has an unexpected family emergency / business emergency / medical emergency / or if the entrant is unable to participate for any other reason not already listed above. Once the entrant has paid the entry fee they will not receive a refund if they cannot participate, or if the event is canceled because of weather, natural disaster, public health crisis, unforeseen circumstances, or for any other reason not already listed above. (Income generated from registration is almost entirely expended prior to race day.) Bib numbers, race materials, and/or other incentive items will not be mailed. The race committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entries.
